Our Tech Lab Workshop is where our users can learn new ICT skills and develop their existing ones to develop a stronger sense of understanding and confidence in using ICT. This enables our users to get some foundation skills that they will be able to use in their free time and on other projects.

IT skills are such a big part of our day to day lives. Many of our residents already have access to their own laptops and phones and our aim is to help them make the most of these to enhance their day to day life whilst still saying safe and secure. We aim to

A lot of the work we do in this workshop is very tailored to abilities and needs of our users and focuses on what our users want to learn.

Here are some of they key skills we can help our residents to achieve. All of these are achieved by setting tasks or projects that will be of interest like creating a poster a favourite band or actor,

Basic PC skills – introduction to using a PC or laptop keyboard, typing and mouse skills.

Explore ICT applications such as word processing,  publishing packages and photo editing packages. Save files and use memory sticks

Use the internet. From information finding such as finding cinema listings or information about local clubs, to keeping up with what is happening in the news and the world around us as well as  recreational  activities such as finding new recipes for cooking or finding a favourite TV shows or playing music.

Creating email accounts and sending and receiving emails. Many of our residents have family and friends all over the world and using email is a great way to stay in touch.

Getting familiar with social media.  Getting supported with setting up and using social media sites like facebook and twitter and sharing with our users how to use these in a safe and secure way. Sharing photos or

Using the digital camera, taking and transferring photos and basic photo edting. We also cover how to add photos to other documents.

Using Skype – some of our residents use skype to have an important bond with their families and friends who may be far away.

Some of our more experienced users have also been supported in creating basic websites as a personal interest or hobby.

There is something for everyone and every level in this workshop.
